This year, Just Food is proud to collaborate with a diverse group of partners to explore the theme of Persist/Resist! within the community in advance of the Just Food Conference on Sunday, March 25th.
Just Food, Minka, Revolutionary Fitness, and Democracy at Work Institute welcomes community members to join us to engage in the Just Food UnConference on Saturday, March 24th!
Building Equity in the Food System With Worker Ownership
Democracy at Work Institute
Location: Park Slope Food Coop, 782 Union St. Brooklyn, NY 11215
2:00- 5:00 PM
Better food means more than organic, local, and/or accessible. Worker exploitation remains a fact of life in our food systems—with low wages, poor work conditions, and discriminatory practices. A critical part of creating a more equitable food system is building worker power and wealth through shared ownership and democratic management.
In this session, workers and worker-owners, cooperative developers, policymakers, labor and food justice leaders will collectively identify current worker-controlled initiatives and business activity in the NYC area food system. We will ground the conversation in specific examples of well-supported, food industry-specific cooperative efforts in communities across the US.

How Do We Show Up?
Aligning Your Whole Self with Your Vision and Mission
Location: MINKA brooklyn, 1120 Washington Ave, 3rd Floor Brooklyn, NY 11225
12:00 - 5:00 PM
Sliding Scale Cost: $30, $50, $65
We are offering a sliding scale for this event, we ask you to pay as much as you can, so those who might not be able to pay as much can still receive their healing session. We are in this together and we choose to do our best to take care of one another.
Do you know that people are likely to learn from what you embody and exemplify rather than your words? Do you sometimes feel the glitch between the vision and future you are working to create and how you are feeling in your Self? When is the last time someone held space for you to let go, so you can move forward stronger? During this JF UnConference event, practitioners of MINKA brooklyn will lead you in experiencing simple, yet powerful ways to care for yourself, so you can continue to use it for yourself and others in the community. Strong movement is built upon healthy and whole community members who can embody the vision for the future; your self-care is a direct way to build stronger movement!
No prior experience is needed for this workshop, but please bring a yoga mat and wear comfortable clothing for gentle movement.
Light snack and refreshments will be provided.
Discussion: Why is self-care an act of resistance?
Intro to Qigong
Qi gong approximately translates to energy/air/breath work. It is the study and practice of using our breath, posture and mind to influence and optimize how we feel and function. This workshop will enable you to harness the power of your breath, body, and mind to make the change you want in your life.
Taught by Taganyahu Swaby L.Ac MSAC
Breathwork for Release & Reiki
Did you know that you change your reality in every moment by changing your breath? Breathwork is an incredibly powerful, effective, and essential self-healing practice that releases trauma, stored pain, emotional blocks, and stuck energy in the body. Breathwork is a fast and easy way to get clarity about a situation, release old programs and patterns, and restore your physical, emotional and spiritual body to a state of wholeness.
During this process of release, the participants will also be assisted by administration of Reiki - a gentle lay of hands healing modality for relaxation. Reiki is a universal life force energy, that calms, detoxes and aligns our energetic system. Release what no longer serves you - leave feeling renewed and refreshed!
Taught by Anna Brooke and assisted by MINKA practitioners
